Getting started
Install, permissions and your first layout.
Install PinLayout on a Mac
- Download PinLayout from the download page.
- Open the .dmg and drag PinLayout into Applications.
- Open PinLayout. When macOS asks, allow Accessibility (next article).
- Enter your email and the 6-digit code to start your 7-day trial.
Allow Accessibility permission on macOS
macOS only lets an app move or resize other windows after you allow it.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.
- Turn on PinLayout. If it is already on but windows do not move, turn it off and on again.
- Return to PinLayout and click Scan.
PinLayout uses this permission only to arrange your windows.
Install PinLayout on Windows
Run the installer from the download page. No extra permissions are needed. Start your trial with your email and the 6-digit code.
Create your first layout
- Open Smart Setup and choose Suggest with AI, or pick a template.
- Adjust zones in the editor: drag to resize, split or merge. Zones snap to a 2% grid and never overlap.
- Pin an app to each zone.
- Press ⌃⌥1 (Ctrl+Alt+1 on Windows) to apply it.
Layouts and zones
Zones, pinning, Chrome profiles and shortcuts.
Pin an app to a zone
Select a zone and choose the app that lives there. To pin the app in front quickly, press ⌃⌥⇧ plus the zone number (1–9). The number is shown in the zone list.
Drag a window into a zone
Hold Shift while dragging a window. Your zones appear with their names, and the window snaps into the one you drop it on.
Pin a single Chrome profile
PinLayout can tell Chrome profiles apart and pin each one to its own zone. On recent macOS versions, reading the full profile list needs Full Disk Access (System Settings → Privacy & Security). Without it, PinLayout reads the profile name from the window title instead, which works for most setups.
Keyboard shortcuts
On Windows, use Ctrl+Alt in place of ⌃⌥. You can change any shortcut in Preferences.
Export, import and share layouts
Export a layout to a file and import it on another computer. Importing never switches to or overwrites your current layout. On a Team plan, publish a layout to the team library and others import it in one click.
Automation
Schedules, calendars, meetings and focus.
Switch layouts with your calendar
Connect your calendar and choose a layout for meetings. PinLayout switches a minute before the event starts and puts your desk back afterwards.
Meeting detection
When a Zoom, Teams or FaceTime call starts, PinLayout can switch to your meeting layout, with the call in front and your notes beside it.
Smart Learning
Optional. When it is on, PinLayout learns which layouts you use at which times and suggests them. Everything it learns stays on your device.
Monitors
Docking, ultrawides and hot-plugging.
Dock and undock
Each monitor keeps its own layout. When you plug a monitor back in, windows return to it. PinLayout also refits layouts when you change resolution or move the Dock.
Remove apps from a monitor you no longer use
In Snap Zones, select the disconnected monitor. You can unpin or forget its apps without plugging it back in.
Troubleshooting
When a window does not land where you expect.
A full-screen window will not move
macOS puts each full-screen app on its own Space, where no window manager can reach it. Press ⌃⌘F in that app to leave full screen, then click Scan. PinLayout shows a notice when this happens.
Only one window of an app is placed
Some apps built with Electron show only one window to the system, so PinLayout can place only that one. This is a macOS limit for those apps.
Windows are not moving at all
- Check that Accessibility is allowed (see Getting started).
- Make sure PinLayout is not paused (⌃⌥P).
- Click Scan, then apply your layout again.

Undo a window move
Press ⌃⌥Z to put the last window PinLayout moved back where it was. The move history lets you go further back.
Account and billing
Trials, licences, devices and refunds.
How the free trial works
Every feature is free for 7 days, with no card needed. When the trial ends, PinLayout asks you to choose a plan. Your layouts stay as they are.
Using PinLayout offline
Your licence is signed and checked on your device, so PinLayout keeps working without Wi-Fi for up to 14 days between checks. When you are online, it re-checks quietly in the background.
Move your licence to another computer
Pro covers one device at a time. Sign in on the new computer and the licence moves with you. You can see your devices, when each was last verified, and how long it can work offline in the app.
Cancel or get a refund
Cancel any time from your account. For a full refund within 7 days of purchase, email support@pinlayout.com. See the Refund policy.
Frequently asked
Quick answers to common questions.
What is PinLayout?
An AI-powered window manager for macOS and Windows. It arranges your windows into a clean layout and keeps them there, so you do not have to drag and resize by hand.
Which platforms are supported?
macOS 13 Ventura or later on Apple silicon and Intel Macs, and Windows 10 and 11.
Does PinLayout support multiple monitors?
Yes. It detects every connected display, including different sizes and resolutions, and each one keeps its own layout.
Can layouts switch automatically?
Yes. Layouts can switch by app, by time, by calendar event, when a call starts, or when you dock and undock.
Is there a free version?
There is no free tier, but every new user gets a 7-day trial with every feature. You do not need a card to start.
Does one licence work on Mac and Windows?
Yes. Your PinLayout account works on both.
Is my data private?
Yes. PinLayout arranges windows on your device and does not read your documents, keystrokes or screen contents. Suggest with AI uses only your monitor layout and the names of your open apps, and only when you click it.
